I love to create my own class! To teach a subject that I think my students need to leran. I´ve worked in differents languages schools and I saw how bored the students were just learning standard english. Some of them give up, because it is always the same things to study. I guess that I conversation with your partener and students can help you to create a nice class.7 August 2021 at 7:59 pm in reply to: Discussion 5.2 – Problems of public belief about English #5544
Teaching english only if you are a native speaker.
Standard English for grammar and pronunciation.
Proficiency means sounding like a native speaker.
My teaching context is based in a curriculum from the secretary. We choose the subject and how to teach it for the students. We also can create our own test.4 August 2021 at 10:59 pm in reply to: Reflection 5.2 – Sharing Changing Englishes ideas with colleagues #5542
I always talk with my colleagues and we sharing many ideas togheter. I never had any obstacles before.
In m opinion language and culture are together. I like the ideia of sharing experiences through a conversation about culture.
I used to use differents texbooks in my classes, it depends what is the students`purposes! I like to teach with series, musics… it helps them to see the varietes of english listening the differents accents, learning new slangs and the looking how is the daily english as a real conversation.
I agree with the points that Rana, Nilda and Ayah were talking about. I don`t think that the texbooks are enough to test our knowlegde! Of course, the textbooks helps us a lot, but there are others tools.
I work with many differents materials, but to work the plurilithic form I use IELTS, TOELF tests… textbooks etc. To work the monolithic form I use some Youtube videos, series etc.21 May 2021 at 2:29 am in reply to: Reflection 4.1 – Talking to students about English(ee), learning/teaching it #5466
In my first classes I always start the class telling to my students that learning english is hard. It isn`t a thing that you gonna study at the moment and will remember of it forever, you have to practice and challenge yourself!
I always talk to my students to know what are their goals, what they are thinking of our classes.
what ‘proficiency’ means, given that learners inevitably construct their own English;
~ In my opinion, proficiency would be the ability, and skill that the student develops his idea and grammar during a conversation. As teachers we could help them with the mistaked that they did.
Some language school penalizes the learners just because they are L1. And, in my opinion they shouldn`t be penalized.1 April 2021 at 6:05 pm in reply to: Discussion 3.2 – Factors that shape the learning of English #5385

The video is very interesting. It explained this complex concept in a very efficient way! I agree with all the thins, it`s better to learn and practice at the same time. These two processes must parallel side by side.
